Joel Ellis was forged in the back alleys and dive bars of Cleveland, Ohio — where rock & roll isn’t a sound, it’s survival. Cutting his teeth in the Rust Belt’s underground scene, Joel clawed his way to L.A. where Atlantic Records legend Ahmet Ertegun spotted what everyone else missed: a frontman with fire in his bones.
Fronting Merri Hoaxx and then lending his raw, unmistakable vocals to Warner Brothers’ Rough Cutt, Joel shared stages with the gods of heavy music — including the legendary Ronnie James Dio.
The World Took Notice.
This brought the spotlight. MTV rotation. Cats in Boots. #1 in Japan. EMI Records. No flukes — just hard miles and louder amps. From Tokyo to the States, Joel’s voice kept crossing borders and building a global following.
Capitol Records. Warner Brothers. Heavy Bones, Ellis island and more. Heavy Bones track “Turn It On” exploded worldwide as an Olympic theme song — putting Joel’s sound on a global stage and into millions of homes.
Now signed to Curtain Call Records in partnership with Sony’s The Orchard, Joel has gotten his music into the sync world of film with the song “Your Love Won’t Let Me Down” in the award winning independent horror film “Bampire” and others to films coming soon. This track can also be found on the cd and 2lp vinyl release of The Real Heavy Bones Rare & Unreleased Archives Vol 1, available on his website www.joelellismusic.com.
Joel continues to leave his mark across continents, delivering high-voltage rock to fans worldwide. Decades in, the mission hasn’t changed: make noise, make it real, and keep shaking the world because it's always Made Loud To Play Loud.
